    Default Citizenship granted!!

    Hi all,

Today my wife received a letter confirming her citizenship application has been approved. We attended her appointment on 7th December, so just over 6 weeks turnaround including the Christmas holidays. We now just need to book her ceremony with our local council.

Again our thanks to the forum for all your help and support over the years

    Great News!!

Still have many more years before we get to that stage.......

A quick question which has been bugging me a little. Now your wife is officially a Brit, does she still keep her Thai nationality? What happens when her Thai Passport runs out, is that it, does it need to be a UK passport from now on? I'm not very clued up on the whole Dual Nationality business yet and thought it kind of only applies to children. I've wondered about this topic a few times....even for me, as in what happens if on the future we settle in Thailand, do I lose my UK nationality?

Apologies for going off topic and distracting from your excellent news and officially the end of all paperwork for you both....

The UK allows her to keep her Thai nationality too so she'll have dual nationality. She'll basically just renew her Thai passport as and when it's due as normal.

even for me, as in what happens if on the future we settle in Thailand, do I lose my UK nationality?
You'd keep your nationality.....and a good thing too as from what I've read achieving permanent residency in Thailand is very rare

Congratulations to you both. We applied on 28th December so hopefully will hear something mid February.

Congrats, and she can renew her Thai passport in the U K.

The UK insists now that both passports be in the same name in case you hadn't nt spotted that.

Unless she's likely to be staying in Thailand for more than a month, there's really not that much need to renew Thai passport.

Congratulations to you both and wishing you our very best wishes for the future Toddmeister.

Hopefully we won't be too far behind you, we submitted our application online 12th Dec and attended the bio-metrics appointment January 2nd, fingers toes and everything else crossed. . .

    Cheers
