    Default New starter salary issues

    Hi

    I've been asked for some help and at this stage my brain is not working.
    A Thai friend has asked for some help about his salary.
    He saids that he's got a new job in IT and his yearly salary is 22880.00 per year. He's doing 40 or a 41.09 hours per week 20 days holiday. , works 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
    But he cannot work out his hourly rate.
    I said you must be on 11.--12.00 per hour, but I will find out for you.
    If anyone here who can help, then please let me know.

    That is 11.00 per hour. Is this in the UK? If so, his holiday entertainment is 28 days (including public bank holidays).

    Yes! He's in the UK. I told him that some companies will try to screw you, because you are new to the system.

    You say he "works" 8 hours a day. Is that working or is that actually attending at work? How long does he get for lunch? (must be a minimum of 30 minutes if working 8 hours a day and it is normally unpaid)
    £22880 / 52 weeks = £440 / 40 hours = £11 per hour
    £22880 / 52 weeks = £440 / 37.5 hours (having 30 minutes for lunch) = £11.73 per hour

    Yes. I was attempting to clarify (not very well!) the statutory holiday entitlement is 28 days. Employers can insist holiday entitlement is taken for bank holidays, if these are not normally worked. If an employee normally works on a bank holiday, they are entitled to a minimum 28 days paid leave.

    I think he is probably just advising his friend to be careful. As paid bank holidays are not compulsory his contract should state that he has 28 days holiday OR 20 days plus 8 bank holidays.
    Whilst I don't think he is being screwed over he should get this clarified, being in I.T. might require his company to work 365 days a year
