Default What happens when my Thai GF UK visitor visa expires during Covid lockdown

Hi everybody, hope all are keeping well & safe. My Thai GF is here with me in the UK on a visitor visa, expiring in July. We had planned to go to Thai & Asia travel after that. Obviously now looking unwise/ not viable.

I really don't want us to be separated because at the end of the year we will have been two years together so can go for the next type of visa. Is it possible that, under the Covid circumstances, we might be able to get her visa extended to stay put? If we could get another 6 months that would be great.

If not does anybody know if we could maybe get a schengen visa (Ireland/France/Denmark/NL) or what would be our next best/easiest option? Since there are likely to be few hotels, and it sounds unwise anyway, I have a camper van we could travel EU and attempt to keep relatively self isolated, but sounds like a recipe for massive problems.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Cheers Rich

At present she will need to leave the UK before her current leave expires. This may change if travel bans remain in place.

The current automatic extensions only apply to those whose leave expires before 31 May.

Republic of Ireland is not in the Schengen Agreement, they have their own Visas.
In your GF's predicament (if she is Thai) she would need Schengen Visas from her Home country in normal circumstances.
In Europe Thai's can visit Turkey and Russia Visa Free IE my Mrs used her Thai passport for Russia but I needed a Visa.

    Fáilte go hÉirinn!

Ireland has a "Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme" for nationals from certain non-EU countries who already hold a UK short stay visitor visa.

Thailand is a qualifying country under this scheme, so your Thai GF can visit the Emerald Isle for a holiday of up to 90 days without an Irish visa IF:

    1. she holds an eligible UK short stay visa, AND
    2. she entered the UK on this visa before her visit to Ireland, AND
    3. she leaves Ireland before her permission to stay in the UK expires, AND
    4. she has a passport from a qualifying country - Thailand is a qualifying country.

Update: I have discovered this page (recently added I guess) where you can request an extension for Covid until end of July ..

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavi...y-uk-residents

We have made a request mid last week but so far no response back.

Follow the link on there (it's actually goes here)...

    https://gov.smartwebportal.co.uk/hom...c/ho_form.html

and you have a form to fill out.
